Butterfly Effect
2021
Oil, acrylic, glitter on canvas
18 x 24 inches
I created ‘Butterfly Effect’ during my sophomore year of college which was in the midst of fully virtual classes due to the COVID pandemic. To bring myself out of a deep creative rut, I began throwing color onto a canvas in an effort to create something, no matter how bad it’d turn out. Like many realism artists, I am not the type to be messy and unplanned. I allowed myself to let go and play around. The shadow created by my arm above the colorful canvas inspired me to take some photos. I knew that I needed to paint what I saw, to create a somewhat surrealist space within the borders of my canvas. I have a niche for imitating the world as we see it in my paintings because it evokes a level of irony and curiosity that deeply interests me. This ended up being the first of many works where I explored this topic.
